who we are.

The M.I.A. Association was founded in 2013 as a place dedicated to active listening and support for women who are victims of violence and abuse. Since 2020, M.I.A. has been part of the National Network of D.i.Re. Centers.

The mission of M.I.A. is to implement activities aimed at combating the phenomenon of violence against women, whether physical, psychological, economic, sexual, spiritual, or stalking.

Every single woman has her own story, her own identity, and her own experience, and we take that into account. Our objective is to offer help to women who are victims of violence, harassment, and abuse or who are experiencing family distress, guaranteeing their anonymity to restore their autonomy and dignity.

M.I.A. should the woman request and consent to it, operates in synergy with the institutional bodies that are part of the Italian Anti-Violence and Abuse Network: the Police Forces, territorial and Specialist Social Services, the Emergency Room, and the Integrated Family Counseling Center.

A personalized plan for exiting the situation of abuse is always shared with the woman, which guarantees both her free choice and her safety through hospitality, if necessary, in protected facilities.

Prevention

is the biggest challenge.

Violence against women is a social scourge and a serious violation of human rights. It is a complex phenomenon, rooted in historical and cultural inequalities. To break this vicious cycle, it is essential to invest in prevention.

Prevention means not just intervening after abuse, but acting at the root: changing the culture. This is achieved through education on respect and gender equality, promoting positive models of masculinity, and deconstructing stereotypes.

  • M.I.A. promotes research, debate, and the dissemination of topics concerning violence against women.

  • It organizes workshops and educational programs in schools of all levels with teachers and students.

  • It promotes gender-sensitive training for territorial Service operators, Law Enforcement, and Healthcare Workers.

  • It organizes violence prevention campaigns through events, seminars, and conferences.

Our commitment is to provide the tools to recognize warning signs and to build relationships based on consent and equality. Only through widespread preventive action can we build a society where every woman can live free from fear. Acting on prevention is acting on the future.

We guarantee anonymity and confidentiality and all services free of charge.
